01 · Overview

Fieldwork precision, rebuilt as a site that behaves like the work.

MField & Data Insight (short form MField MEA, where MEA means Middle East & Africa) is a market-research fieldwork and data-processing agency headquartered in Casablanca. It runs CAPI tablet interviews, CATI telephone interviews, CAWI online surveys, mystery shopping and retail audits, focus groups and in-depth interviews, then cleans, weights and tabulates the data for research networks and brand-side insight teams across Morocco, North Africa, the GCC and Sub-Saharan Africa. Its buyers are research directors and project managers who scope studies for a living: they want to know which methods are covered, in which markets, with what quality control, and how fast a field team can mobilise. The old website could not answer any of that well. It was a multi-page Bootstrap/jQuery template with AOS, Swiper and Magnific Popup that looked like a thousand other agency sites and did not convey the precision the agency sells.

It also carried real liabilities. A full PHPMailer checkout (122 PHP files) sat in the public assets folder. The RFQ form showed an "RFQ logged" confirmation without sending anything, so a buyer could request a quote and never hear back. On the search side, canonicals disagreed with the sitemap, the 404 page was indexable, hreflang tags pointed to French and Arabic versions that did not exist, and the footer carried a compliance badge the site could not substantiate.

RAIN Design Studio rebuilt the site from scratch as a fully static Astro 5 site in TypeScript: 33 pages, no framework runtime, no server and no database. What ships:

  • A content system research buyers can scan — 4 core services, 5 methodologies in interactive tabs, 8 research programs, 10 industries, 6 long-form case-study pages with a filterable index, and a 16-document policy hub in 4 categories.
  • Tools instead of brochure copy — a real-time fieldwork feasibility calculator, a keyboard-accessible map of Morocco's 12 administrative regions, a ⌘K command palette, and an RFQ builder that writes a structured, pre-filled email in the visitor's own mail app.
  • An "ink and bone" design system — one midnight-navy ink, one vermilion signal colour, self-hosted Geist type and flat hairline surfaces, in light and dark themes whose text and fill pairs pass WCAG AA.
  • Clean foundations for search and AI answer engines — one SEO component for every page's metadata and JSON-LD graph, one honest locale, one clean sitemap with canonicals that match it 1:1, llms.txt and llms-full.txt, and a robots file that welcomes AI crawlers by name.

All content moved out of the markup and into typed data files, so the agency's own team can edit services, FAQs, policies and case studies without touching a template, and a typo fails the build instead of reaching the live page. The site is live at mfieldmea.com on v27.1.2, served through Cloudflare and released as tagged, ready-to-upload archives.

02 · Architecture & Design

Static by default, typed at the source, safe for crawlers.

01

Fully static Astro output

Astro 5 with output: static and directory-style URLs. No framework runtime ships to the browser and there is no server to patch. The RFQ is a structured mailto:, so there is no form backend to secure or keep alive.

02

Typed content layer

Services, methodologies, programs, industries, clients, FAQs, the 16 policies and the 6 case studies are plain TypeScript arrays in src/data/. Client logos are referenced by filename, so a missing or misspelled logo fails the build instead of shipping a broken image.

03

Ink-and-bone design tokens

Every colour is a CSS custom property defined once for light and dark. Bone #f6f5f1 and midnight navy #0f1b33 do the work; vermilion is reserved for small marks such as numerals, focus rings and the progress line. The theme follows the OS until the visitor picks one.

04

Crawl-safe motion layer

Animation is declared with data-* attributes on the motion library. Nothing is hidden unless a pre-paint script adds a .motion class, a 2.5-second watchdog removes it if the runtime never boots, and reduced-motion visitors get no reveals at all.

05

Buyer tools as small scripts

The calculator, the region map, the palette and the RFQ builder are lightweight component scripts that re-initialise on every view-transition page load. The calculator and the map hand their choices to the RFQ through URL parameters, so a scoped study arrives pre-filled.

06

One SEO source of truth

SEO.astro owns title, description, robots, canonical, hreflang, Open Graph, Twitter and the JSON-LD @graph for every page. Pages only add what is specific to them: FAQPage, Article or ItemList.

07

Portable post-build integration

A custom Astro integration rewrites asset URLs to depth-correct relative paths, stamps each page for router-safe navigation, adds the trailing slash the server expects, renames the sitemap and prunes unused legacy folders. The same build runs at a domain root, in a subfolder or from an unzipped archive.

08

Clean migration from the legacy site

An .htaccess and a _redirects file send every legacy .html URL and old sitemap name to its new home with a 301. PHPMailer and other unreferenced legacy assets were removed from the published build.

04 · How it competes

A supplier site that scopes the study before the first call.

Fieldwork agencies across MEA compete for subcontracted work from global research networks and for direct briefs from brands. Most of them present themselves with a template site or a PDF deck. Here is how the rebuild compares with the usual options.

vs. the legacy template
The old Bootstrap/jQuery site faked an RFQ confirmation, served a PHPMailer folder publicly and sent mixed signals to search engines. The rebuild is static, writes real pre-filled emails and has one clean, honest index.
vs. a WordPress theme
No database, no plugins to patch and no framework runtime. Content lives in typed data files, so a broken entry fails the build instead of the live page, and nothing on the server can be attacked.
vs. a hosted page builder
Tools built for research buyers, such as the feasibility calculator and the region map, sit next to a full JSON-LD graph, llms.txt and a portable build that page builders rarely offer by default.
vs. a PDF credentials deck
A deck answers scoping questions once, by email. The site answers them for every buyer at any hour, gives each method, case study and policy its own linkable URL, and turns the answer into an RFQ.

05 · Outcome

A precise, honest site the agency can run itself.

MField & Data Insight is live at mfieldmea.com on v27.1.2, served through Cloudflare and released as tagged, ready-to-upload archives. The fake RFQ confirmation, the publicly served PHPMailer files, the false French and Arabic hreflang claims, the indexable 404, the canonical and sitemap mismatch and the unsubstantiated footer badge are all gone. Per the project changelog, client logos dropped from 124 KB to 30 KB as WebP with correct dimensions. A research buyer can now scope a study in the calculator, check regional coverage on the map, read a matching case study and the relevant policies, and send a structured RFQ from their own inbox in one visit. The agency's team edits services, FAQs, policies and case studies as typed data, without a developer on call. We have no traffic, ranking or lead data for this project, so we make no claims about business results.

MField & Data Insight — FAQ

MEA stands for Middle East & Africa, the region MField & Data Insight serves from its base in Casablanca, Morocco. The site's calculator and RFQ form cover Morocco, North Africa, the GCC and Sub-Saharan Africa.

RAIN built it as a fully static Astro 5 site in TypeScript, with the motion library for animation, Sharp for images and self-hosted Geist fonts. There is no server or database, and the output can be deployed to a domain root, a subfolder or an unzipped archive.

Visitors choose a method, one of 5 market presets and a sample size between 300 and 5,000 interviews. The calculator returns an estimated turnaround, an interviewer range and a back-check scope of 30% of the sample, then links into the RFQ form with those choices already filled in.

The old template showed an RFQ confirmation without sending anything and served a PHPMailer folder from public assets. Its canonicals disagreed with the sitemap, the 404 was indexable and hreflang pointed to French and Arabic pages that did not exist. All of these were removed or fixed in the rebuild.

No. The site is English-only, with hreflang set to en and x-default. The rebuild removed earlier hreflang tags that pointed to French and Arabic versions that did not exist.
