Nearshore software development for German companies, run from Casablanca

RAIN is a senior design and development studio in Casablanca, Morocco, working remotely with German companies. We are six people across three time zones, working with AI specialists, and every deliverable is reviewed and signed off by a human lead. The studio has shipped work since 2014, and our founder, MrZaKaRiA, spent 11 years inside agencies before starting it.

We are not a body-shop. German buyers searching for nearshore IT usually meet two kinds of supplier: large vendors in Poland, Romania or Ukraine that place individual developers into your team, and offshore firms in India that sell capacity by the head. RAIN is a third option: a small studio that takes responsibility for a product area, from UX to the release pipeline, on a fixed monthly retainer.

Why Casablanca works as a nearshore location for Germany

Same working day

Morocco runs on GMT+1 for most of the year. In winter that is exactly Berlin time; in summer, and during Ramadan, we are one hour behind. Your 9:00 standup is our 8:00 or 9:00. There is no “end of day handover” and no answer that arrives the next morning.

English as the working language

We do not work in German, and we do not pretend to. Specifications, Jira or Linear tickets, standups, pull request reviews and documentation are all in English, which is already the working language of many German product and engineering teams. We also work in French. If your users need German interface copy, your team or translator owns the wording and we build clean internationalization so updates never require a developer.

Close enough to meet

Casablanca is roughly four hours from Frankfurt by direct flight, about half a working day door to door. On-site workshops at your office can be arranged for kick-offs or planning sessions.

GDPR, SCCs and data protection

German buyers rightly ask about data protection first, so here is the plain version.

  • Morocco has no EU adequacy decision. When personal data is made accessible to a team in Morocco, including remote access to an EU-hosted database, that is generally treated as a transfer under Chapter V of the GDPR.
  • The usual mechanism is the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), signed together with an Article 28 data processing agreement (in German practice, the AVV) and supported by your transfer impact assessment.
  • On our side, Moroccan Law 09-08 on the protection of personal data applies, overseen by the national commission, the CNDP.
  • Minimize the transfer. We are happy to work on anonymized or synthetic data, inside your EU-hosted cloud accounts, with access you grant and revoke.

Your data protection officer makes the final decision. We supply the paperwork and the technical measures; we do not give legal advice.

What our nearshore development team builds

Our 2026–2027 stack is TypeScript, Vue 3, React, Laravel and PHP, Tailwind CSS, Astro, Tauri for desktop and Capacitor for mobile, on MySQL and PostgreSQL, with design in Figma. The proof is in products we built and run ourselves:

  • RIVER ERP, a Laravel 13 and Vue 3 ERP with 23 activatable modules, 12 suites and 154 screens. It generates EU Factur-X / ZUGFeRD e-invoices (PDF/A-3) alongside Moroccan UBL 2.1, and ships as a web app, PWA, Capacitor iOS and Android wrappers and a Tauri desktop app.
  • Enterprise CRM, a B2B CRM on React 18, GraphQL and NestJS 11, with PostgreSQL, Redis job queues and ClickHouse for analytics.
  • ERPStore, a self-hosted subscription billing and CRM platform with 126 routes, 76 API endpoints, 10 payment methods and a 32-language client portal.

The work German teams bring us most often is SaaS development, internal tools and back-office platforms, and custom ERP development where an off-the-shelf system does not fit the process.

If GDPR simplicity outweighs everything else, an EU-based vendor is the easier choice, and we will say so. If you want a senior nearshore development team that designs and builds, on Berlin time, Casablanca is worth a call. Our guide to nearshore vs offshore development covers the wider trade-offs.

How a nearshore engagement runs

  • One senior lead owns scope, quality and communication.
  • One shared Slack channel for questions and decisions, answered the same day.
  • Your tooling: GitHub or GitLab, your issue tracker, your CI and cloud accounts.
  • Friday delivery: a working increment on staging plus a Loom walkthrough.
  • Human sign-off: AI tools speed up research and testing, but a senior person approves every merge.

Who this suits, and who it does not

A RAIN retainer suits a German product company with an in-house product owner and a clear roadmap but not enough senior hands to ship it: a SaaS team in Berlin that needs a second squad for a new module, a Mittelstand company replacing spreadsheets with an internal platform, or a scale-up that wants design and front end delivered by the same people. It does not suit companies that need twenty developers placed into existing teams, work that must be done in German, or projects where personal data cannot leave the EU under any mechanism. In those cases an EU-based vendor is the honest recommendation.

E-invoicing experience

Germany’s move to structured B2B e-invoicing has put formats like ZUGFeRD and XRechnung on many roadmaps. RIVER ERP already generates Factur-X / ZUGFeRD invoices as PDF/A-3 with embedded XML, so we have built against these formats in production, not just read the specification.

Contracts, ownership and invoicing

  • Ownership. The contract grants your company exclusive, unrestricted rights to all code, designs and documentation, and the repositories live in your organization from day one.
  • Confidentiality. An NDA can be signed before the first technical conversation.
  • Invoicing. Prices are set in USD; we can invoice in EUR on request. As a non-EU supplier of B2B services, VAT is normally handled on your side under the reverse-charge rules; check the treatment with your tax adviser.
  • Start. Kick-off within 3–5 business days of signature.

Pricing

  • Growth, $7,500 per month: 45 hours, two active projects, twice-weekly syncs, 24-hour response.
  • Scale, $15,000 per month: 100 hours, unlimited active projects, daily syncs, same-day response.
  • Fixed-scope projects from $10,000. Custom platforms typically take 8–16 weeks.

The general model is described on our nearshore software development in Morocco page.

Talk to a nearshore team on Berlin time

A free 15-minute call will tell you more than a capability deck. Book a call or write to rain@mrzakaria.com with what you are building, where your team sits and what your DPO needs from a supplier. We will tell you which retainer fits, or whether an EU-based vendor would serve you better.

Frequently asked questions

No. RAIN Design Studio is based in Casablanca, Morocco, and works with German companies remotely. We have no office, address or staff in Germany. On-site workshops can be arranged for larger engagements; Casablanca is roughly a four-hour direct flight from Frankfurt.

No. Our working language with German clients is English, for specifications, tickets, standups and code reviews; we also work in French. Many German tech teams already run in English. If your product needs German interface copy, your team or translator supplies or reviews it, and we build the internationalization so it slots in cleanly.

Morocco has no EU adequacy decision, so personal data made accessible to us in Morocco is normally covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, alongside an Article 28 processing agreement (AVV) and your transfer impact assessment. On our side, Moroccan Law 09-08 applies, supervised by the CNDP. Where possible we work on anonymized or synthetic data and your EU-hosted infrastructure. Your DPO makes the final call; this is not legal advice.

Casablanca runs on GMT+1 most of the year. That means the same clock as Berlin in winter and one hour behind in summer, and also one hour behind during Ramadan, when Morocco temporarily moves to GMT. Either way, the full German working day overlaps ours.

The Growth retainer is $7,500 per month for 45 hours, two active projects and twice-weekly syncs. The Scale retainer is $15,000 per month for 100 hours, unlimited active projects and daily syncs. Fixed-scope projects start at $10,000. Prices are set in USD, and we can invoice in EUR on request.

Your company does. The contract grants you exclusive, unrestricted rights to everything we produce, and we can work entirely inside your GitHub or GitLab organization and your cloud accounts from the first day.

Poland and Romania sit inside the EU, which simplifies GDPR, and both have large developer markets. Morocco offers a comparable working day (0–1 h from Berlin), English and French as working languages, and, in RAIN's case, a small senior studio that designs and builds rather than renting out individual developers. Which fits depends on whether you need headcount or a team that owns outcomes.

Let's build what's next.

Custom projects from $10,000, monthly plans from $7,500. Kickoff within 3–5 business days.
