Custom ERP Development Services

In short

Custom ERP development at RAIN Design Studio means designing and building an ERP around the way your business already works, instead of bending your processes to a package. The Casablanca studio builds its own Morocco-first ERP, RIVER ERP: 23 modules across 12 suites and 154 screens, with DGI and Factur-X e-invoicing, POS and payroll in one Laravel and Vue codebase.

Typical custom platform timeline

Custom ERP development is the right call when your business has outgrown spreadsheets and point tools, but the standard packages force workarounds on the parts that make you different. RAIN Design Studio designs and builds ERPs in Casablanca on Laravel, Vue 3 and Tailwind CSS, and it does so from first-hand product experience: the studio ships two ERP-class products of its own, RIVER ERP and ERPStore.

What custom ERP development means, and when it pays off

A custom ERP is a single system, built for one business, that connects sales, purchasing, stock, finance and people so that every number agrees. A quote becomes an order, the order becomes a delivery note and an invoice, and the invoice feeds treasury and the ledger without exports.

Customized ERP development tends to pay off in four situations:

  • Your document flow is unusual. You convert a quote straight into a delivery note, invoice in parts, or run service contracts beside product sales.
  • Compliance is local. Moroccan identifiers (ICE, IF, RC, CNSS), the Plan Comptable Général Marocain and DGI e-invoicing are core requirements, not add-ons.
  • Hardware and channels matter. POS terminals, barcode scanners, a shop-floor screen and a mobile app all need to share one database.
  • Per-user license costs scale badly. A self-hosted system you control can be cheaper over several years than adding paid seats.

If none of these apply, a package is usually the better choice. We explain why below.

Built on experience: RIVER ERP and ERPStore

RAIN’s custom ERP solutions draw on two products the studio designed, built and maintains.

RIVER ERP

RIVER ERP is a self-hosted, Morocco-first business system on Laravel 13, Vue 3 and Tailwind CSS v4 (version 27.0.1). It contains:

  • 23 activatable modules grouped into 12 suites, across 154 screens
  • 16 business document types, from quote (devis) and customer PO to delivery note, credit note, supplier invoice, expense report and SEPA mandate, with any-to-any conversion and lineage
  • Double-entry accounting on the Plan Comptable Général Marocain, with VAT, period close, trial balance, P&L and balance sheet
  • Retail and restaurant POS, multi-warehouse stock with FIFO and weighted-average valuation, batch and serial tracking
  • Production with bills of materials, work orders and a shop-floor terminal
  • Payroll and HR: absences, payroll runs and payslip PDFs
  • 10 interface languages, with French, English and Arabic complete

ERPStore

ERPStore is a self-hosted subscription store, billing and CRM platform for digital-service resellers, built on Vue and PHP with MySQL. It has 126 routes, 76 API endpoints, 10 payment methods and 32 interface languages. Its upgrade path was validated on a real database of 1,023 users, 354 orders and 483 payments, which is the kind of migration discipline any ERP replacement needs.

Custom ERP vs Odoo, Dolibarr and Sage

Off-the-shelf ERPs are mature products, and for many businesses they are the right answer. This comparison is meant to help you decide, not to sell you a build.

Criterion Custom ERP (RAIN) Odoo Dolibarr Sage
License model You commission the build; self-hosted Open-source Community edition plus paid Enterprise subscription Free and open source (GPL) Commercial licenses or subscriptions
Fit to your workflow Designed around your documents and roles Very broad app catalog; deep changes need a partner Modular and lightweight; workflow is fairly fixed Strong on accounting; less flexible on operations
Time to first use 8–16 weeks for a custom platform Days to weeks for a standard setup Days for a basic install Days to weeks with a reseller
Upfront cost From $10,000 Low to moderate Low Moderate
Long-term cost driver Maintenance and new features Per-user subscriptions and customization Hosting and community or paid modules Licenses, upgrades and support
Best choice when Your process is your edge, or compliance and hardware are specific You want many standard apps quickly You run a small team with simple needs Your accountant already works in Sage

When off-the-shelf is the better choice

  • You have fewer than a handful of users and standard processes.
  • You need to go live within a month.
  • Your accountant requires a specific package for closing the books.
  • You cannot fund maintenance after launch.

In those cases, RAIN will say so during the discovery call. A common middle path is to keep accounting in Sage and build a custom operational layer for quotes, stock and POS that exports clean entries.

Compliance built in: DGI e-invoicing, Factur-X and Moroccan accounting

Compliance is where custom ERP software development earns its keep for Moroccan companies. RIVER ERP includes:

  • A DGI e-invoicing service that builds UBL 2.1 invoices (with a CII alternative), signs them with XMLDSig and queues submissions with an offline fallback
  • Factur-X / ZUGFeRD output (PDF/A-3 with embedded XML) for clients invoicing France and the EU
  • ICE, IF, RC, CNSS and Patente fields on companies and documents, MAD as the default currency, and amounts written out in words in French, Arabic and English
  • An audit log on every change, TOTP two-factor login and GDPR export and erasure

For the regulatory background, read our French guide to facture électronique au Maroc. If your need is mainly quotes, invoices and stock, see our page on logiciel de gestion commerciale au Maroc.

Desktop, mobile and POS from one codebase

An ERP is used by accountants at a desk, cashiers at a counter and drivers on the road. RIVER ERP serves all of them from one Laravel API and one Vue 3 front end:

  • Web app and PWA, installable with shortcuts for the workshop and the till
  • Capacitor wrappers for iOS and Android, with camera barcode scanning
  • A Tauri v2 desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux, on both ARM64 and x64
  • Retail and restaurant POS with floor plans, kitchen, waiter and cashier roles, sessions and Z-reports

One codebase means one set of business rules, one test suite and one release to maintain.

How a custom ERP software development project runs

  1. Discovery. We map your documents, roles, approvals and integrations, and decide build versus buy with you.
  2. Design. One senior designer prototypes the key screens in Figma: document editor, dashboard, POS and mobile views.
  3. Build in increments. We ship working modules in order of business value, with a Loom update every Friday and one shared Slack channel.
  4. Migration. Customers, products, opening balances and open documents are imported and checked against your old system.
  5. Launch and support. Training, a stabilization period, then maintenance on a retainer or per release.

Every deliverable is reviewed and signed off by a human lead. If you need extra engineering capacity across time zones, our nearshore development team in Morocco works on the same terms. For a multi-tenant product rather than an internal system, see SaaS development services.

Book a 15-minute call about your ERP

Tell us how your business runs today and where the friction is. In a free 15-minute call, we will tell you honestly whether custom ERP development, an off-the-shelf package or a hybrid makes sense. Custom fixed-scope projects start at $10,000; ongoing work runs on the Growth ($7,500/month) or Scale ($15,000/month) retainer, and kick-off takes 3 to 5 business days.

Frequently asked questions

Custom fixed-scope projects at RAIN Design Studio start at $10,000, and the final price depends on the modules, integrations and compliance work in scope. Teams that want continuous development can use the Growth retainer at $7,500 per month or the Scale retainer at $15,000 per month. Every quote follows a discovery phase, so the price is tied to a written scope.

A custom platform such as an ERP, CRM or billing system typically takes 8 to 16 weeks at RAIN. A focused first release, for example sales documents, stock and invoicing, sits at the shorter end; payroll, production and multi-company setups push it longer. Kick-off happens within 3 to 5 business days of signing.

Choose off-the-shelf software when your processes are standard, your budget is tight and you need to go live in weeks. A custom ERP pays off when your document flow, pricing, compliance or hardware setup does not fit a package without heavy customization. RAIN will tell you in discovery if a package is the better answer.

Yes. RIVER ERP, the studio's own ERP, includes a Moroccan DGI e-invoicing layer that builds UBL 2.1 invoices, signs them with XMLDSig and queues submissions with an offline fallback. It also produces Factur-X invoices for clients in France and the EU. The same patterns are available to custom ERP projects.

RIVER ERP runs in the browser, installs as a PWA, has Capacitor wrappers for iOS and Android, and ships a Tauri desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux. A custom ERP can use the same approach, so one Laravel and Vue codebase serves the office, the shop floor and staff on the move.

Both RIVER ERP and ERPStore are self-hosted products, so the data lives on a server the business controls. For custom projects, hosting is agreed during discovery, whether that is your own server in Morocco, a European cloud region or another provider you already use.
