Nearshoring for Dutch Companies: A Senior Team in Casablanca

In short

Nearshoring for Dutch companies, without renting individual developers: RAIN Design Studio is a senior design and development studio in Casablanca, Morocco, working remotely with teams in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Eindhoven. We work in English on Amsterdam time (the same clock in winter, one hour behind in summer) with PHP/Laravel, Vue, React and Node in production.

Nearshoring for Dutch tech teams, run from Casablanca

RAIN is a senior design and development studio in Casablanca, Morocco, working remotely with Dutch companies. We are a small team, six people across three time zones, working with AI specialists, and a human lead reviews and signs off every deliverable. We have shipped work since 2014.

Dutch scale-ups tend to run in English, keep hierarchies flat and expect engineers to challenge a ticket rather than just close it. That suits how we work. What we are not is a staffing agency. When Dutch companies search for nearshoring, many of the results are brokers offering to place a Java or PHP developer in your team for a monthly rate. RAIN offers a different deal: a senior team that owns a product area, on a fixed retainer, with one person accountable for it.

Amsterdam time, English-first

  • Time zone. Casablanca runs on GMT+1 for most of the year. In winter that is Amsterdam time; in summer, and during Ramadan, we are one hour behind. Your entire working day overlaps ours.
  • Language. Specifications, standups, pull requests and documentation are in English. We also work in French. We do not work in Dutch.
  • Travel. Direct flights from Amsterdam take under four hours, so a planning day in your office is a realistic option.
  • Rhythm. One shared Slack channel, syncs twice a week or daily depending on the retainer, and a working increment with a Loom walkthrough every Friday.

Our stack, honestly

Before you compare vendors, check the stack. Here is what we run in production and what we do not.

Area What we ship Where you can see it
PHP back end Laravel 13, PHP, MySQL/MariaDB RIVER ERP, ERPStore
Node back end NestJS 11, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, Redis/BullMQ Enterprise CRM
Front end Vue 3, React 18, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS RIVER ERP, Enterprise CRM
Analytics store ClickHouse Enterprise CRM
Desktop and mobile Tauri v2, Capacitor RIVER ERP
Marketing sites Astro Client sites in our portfolio
Python, Java, .NET Not offered as a core team Look for a specialist vendor

If you were searching for nearshoring Python development or a Java team, we are the wrong fit for the core product, and we would rather say so now. If you need a nearshore PHP development team (a PHP ontwikkelteam, in the Dutch search phrase), or Vue, React and Node, this is exactly what we build every week.

What Dutch companies hire us for

Laravel and Vue product work

RIVER ERP is our own Laravel 13 and Vue 3 ERP: 23 activatable modules across 12 suites and about 154 screens, 16 business document types, EU Factur-X e-invoicing, and builds for web, PWA, iOS, Android and desktop. It is the clearest evidence of how we structure a large PHP codebase: business logic in service classes, every feature behind a module switch and a role-based allow-list.

Node, GraphQL and data-heavy tools

Enterprise CRM is a B2B relationship platform on React 18 and Apollo GraphQL, with a NestJS 11 back end, PostgreSQL and TypeORM, Redis job queues and ClickHouse analytics. It shows how we handle real-time pipelines, queues and dashboards with many dimensions per record.

Taking over an existing codebase

Not every engagement starts from scratch. Dutch teams often bring us a Laravel or Vue application written by a previous vendor or a departed freelancer. We start with a written review of structure, tests, dependencies and deployment, fix what blocks safe releases first, and only then add features. Upgrades between major Laravel or Vue versions are planned as their own milestones, with tests in place before anything moves.

SaaS and internal platforms

Subscription products, client portals, admin dashboards and back-office systems are the core of our SaaS development work, with product design and engineering in the same team.

What the first month looks like

  • Week 1: access to your repositories, issue tracker and staging; a written review of the codebase, with risks and quick wins; a first small change merged so the pipeline is proven.
  • Weeks 2–3: the first real feature or module, designed and built, with pull requests reviewed by your team as they open.
  • Week 4: a short retrospective on rhythm, communication and scope, and a decision on whether Growth or Scale fits the roadmap.

You see working software every Friday from the first week, so you can judge the fit on output rather than promises.

IT nearshoring models compared

Dutch buyers usually choose between four ways of adding capacity. The right one depends on whether you need hands or ownership.

Criterion Broker or detachering (developer placed in your team) Freelancer (ZZP) Nearshore vendor with a dedicated team RAIN studio retainer
Who manages the work You You Shared with vendor PM Our senior lead
Design included No Rarely Usually separate Yes: UX, UI and engineering together
Scaling Add or remove people Add or remove people Change team size Switch between Growth and Scale
Commitment Per person, often months Per contract Often minimum team size Monthly retainer or fixed project
Accountability Hours delivered Hours delivered Team velocity Weekly working increments
Pricing Monthly or hourly rate per head Hourly Per head $7,500 or $15,000 per month, projects from $10,000

Freelancer arrangements deserve a note. Since the Dutch tax authority resumed enforcement of the DBA rules on self-employed contractors in 2025, many companies have been reviewing long-running freelance engagements. A studio retainer with a defined outcome is one alternative; your own advisers should judge the employment-law side.

For the bigger picture, our guide to nearshore vs offshore development explains why a nearby time zone usually beats a lower rate card.

GDPR and data protection

  • Morocco has no EU adequacy decision, so remote access to personal data from Casablanca is generally treated as a transfer. The usual safeguard is the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, with an Article 28 processing agreement.
  • On our side, Moroccan Law 09-08 applies, overseen by the CNDP.
  • In the Netherlands the supervisor is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens; your privacy officer decides what your transfer assessment needs.
  • In practice we prefer anonymized or seeded data and work inside your EU-hosted cloud accounts, with access you control.

This is a summary, not legal advice.

Contracts, ownership and invoicing

  • Ownership: all code, designs and documentation belong to your company, and repositories live in your GitHub or GitLab organization from day one.
  • NDA available before technical discussions.
  • Invoicing: prices are set in USD; EUR invoices on request. VAT on B2B services from a non-EU supplier is normally handled on your side under reverse charge; confirm with your accountant.
  • Kick-off within 3–5 business days of signature.

Yes, with one difference from a typical broker: you do not hire individual developers, you retain a senior team led by one person who owns the outcome. Our PHP work runs on Laravel, with Vue 3 or React front ends, and RIVER ERP is a Laravel 13 product we build and maintain ourselves.

No. Our production stack is TypeScript, Vue, React, Node (NestJS), Laravel and PHP, with MySQL and PostgreSQL. If your core product is Python or Java, a vendor that staffs those languages will serve you better, though we can still take on the front end or a separate service.

English, for everything from tickets to code reviews; we also work in French. We do not work in Dutch. If your product needs Dutch interface copy, your team or translator supplies it and we build the internationalization.
