A Web Design Agency for Manchester Businesses, Working Remotely
RAIN Design Studio is a web design agency for Manchester businesses, working remotely from Casablanca, Morocco, on UK time or one hour ahead. We design and build fast, static Astro websites for Manchester SMEs and scale-ups that have outgrown a slow WordPress theme, with fixed-scope projects from $10,000 and a typical build of 3–6 weeks.

Projects from
RAIN is a senior design and development studio in Casablanca, Morocco, working remotely with Manchester companies. We are not a Manchester agency and do not claim to be. What we offer Greater Manchester businesses is a small senior team that designs and builds fast websites on UK hours, with published prices and the option of on-site workshops when a project needs them.
Web design agency for Manchester: where a remote studio fits
Manchester has one of the strongest digital economies in the UK outside London. MediaCityUK in Salford anchors broadcasting and media, the city centre is home to professional services, financial and legal firms, and Greater Manchester has a large base of manufacturers, retailers and online brands. It also has a mature local agency scene, so any web design agency in Manchester is competing with good neighbours.
The businesses that come to a remote studio are usually SMEs and scale-ups with a specific problem:
- A WordPress site that has become slow and fragile, built on a page-builder theme with dozens of plugins that nobody wants to update.
- A site that looks dated next to competitors but carries years of search traffic that cannot be lost in a redesign.
- A growing content need: services, sectors, locations and guides that have outgrown a ten-page brochure site.
Astro instead of a heavy WordPress theme
Our main tool for marketing sites is Astro, which renders each page to static HTML at build time. Nothing runs on a server when someone opens the page, and JavaScript loads only for the components that need it. We do not publish speed comparisons we have not measured on your site, but the structural differences are clear:
| Typical page-builder WordPress site | Astro site built by RAIN | |
|---|---|---|
| How pages are served | Generated from PHP and a database on request, unless cached | Pre-built static HTML from a CDN or static host |
| JavaScript shipped | Theme, builder and plugin scripts on most pages | Only for interactive components; zero on some sites |
| Maintenance | Core, theme and plugin updates, plus security patches | Dependency updates at build time; no admin exposed on the live site |
| Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) | Often held back by heavy scripts and layout shifts | Designed for from the first template |
Structured data and llms.txt |
Via plugins, of varying quality | Generated from the site’s own content |
| Content editing | Familiar WordPress admin | Markdown in Git, or a headless CMS |
WordPress is still the right answer for some teams, particularly those with many non-technical editors who publish daily. We will tell you if that is you. More detail is on our Astro web development page and in the guide what is Astro.
Projects that show the approach
- MField & Data Insight. We rebuilt a market-research agency’s ageing Bootstrap and jQuery template as a static Astro site of 33 pages, with an interactive fieldwork cost and timeline calculator, a keyboard-accessible map of Morocco’s 12 regions, a 16-document policy hub, and light and dark themes designed to WCAG AA contrast.
- 2RCLOUD. A bilingual English and French site for a senior Salesforce consultant that ships no runtime JavaScript, with AVIF and WebP images sized to avoid layout shift, and Person and FAQPage JSON-LD.
- Origin Element. A 42-page Astro 7 site for a London AI integration consultancy, with 36 programmatic service, region, industry and guide pages and a Lighthouse budget enforced in CI.
Website development in Manchester: what you get
Every website development project for a Manchester client includes:
- Discovery and content structure: sitemap, page templates and the content model before any visual design.
- Design in Figma, reviewed in short calls on UK time.
- Build in Astro with semantic HTML, JSON-LD structured data, an XML sitemap,
llms.txtand an AI-crawler policy inrobots.txt. - Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA as a working target: keyboard access, visible focus states and tested colour contrast.
- Migration: a full URL map with 301 redirects, so existing search traffic has somewhere to go.
- Handover: documentation, access to the repository and hosting in your name, and a walkthrough for your team.
A redesign without losing search traffic
Many Manchester businesses delay a redesign because the old site, for all its faults, brings in enquiries. A migration is where most of that risk sits, so we treat it as its own workstream:
- Inventory. We crawl the existing site and export the pages that earn impressions and clicks in Google Search Console, so we know which URLs matter.
- URL map. Every old URL gets a destination: the same path where possible, otherwise the closest new page, with a 301 redirect. Nothing important falls through to a 404.
- Content carried over deliberately. Pages that perform keep their substance; pages that do not are merged, rewritten or retired.
- Pre-launch checks on staging: redirects, canonicals, structured data, sitemap and robots rules.
- Launch and monitoring. The new sitemap is submitted to Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, and we watch crawl errors and coverage in the weeks after go-live.
No migration can guarantee rankings, and anyone who promises otherwise is guessing. A careful plan simply removes the avoidable losses.

Frequently asked questions
No. RAIN Design Studio is based in Casablanca, Morocco, and works with Manchester businesses remotely, on UK time or one hour ahead. We have no Manchester office or phone number. On-site workshops in Manchester can be arranged for larger projects.
Astro builds every page to static HTML ahead of time, so there is no database query or plugin stack running when a visitor arrives. That usually makes pages faster and removes the routine of plugin updates and security patches. WordPress remains a good fit when non-technical editors rely heavily on its admin, and we will say so.
Fixed-scope website projects start at $10,000, and a typical marketing site takes 3–6 weeks. Ongoing work runs on the Growth retainer at $7,500 per month for 45 hours. Prices are in USD, and we can invoice in GBP on request.
Yes. Content can be kept in Markdown files that your team edits through Git, or connected to a headless CMS if you prefer a visual editor. We agree the editing workflow during scoping and document it at handover.
We map every existing URL, set up 301 redirects to the new pages, carry over titles and descriptions where they still fit, and submit the new sitemap to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. No migration can guarantee rankings, but a careful redirect plan avoids the most common losses.
Yes, where the job is design and development. For content and brand sites we use Astro; for stores and custom commerce we scope the platform case by case, including our own RAIN Store engine where it fits.
