Typical custom platform build
RAIN is a senior design and development studio in Casablanca, Morocco, working remotely with UK companies. We design, build and maintain bespoke software: internal platforms, client portals, SaaS products, ERP and CRM systems, for businesses whose processes no longer fit an off-the-shelf package. We have no UK office and do not pretend otherwise. We work from Casablanca on UK hours and travel for workshops by arrangement.
Bespoke software development for UK companies
Bespoke software development means building an application around the way your business actually works, rather than bending your processes to fit a product designed for someone else. In UK businesses it usually starts in one of three places:
- A spreadsheet or Access database that runs the company. It worked for years, but now several people edit the same file, nobody fully trusts the numbers and the person who built it has moved on.
- SaaS sprawl. A CRM, a quoting tool, a stock app and an invoicing package, each billed per seat and stitched together with exports and automation tools.
- A legacy system nobody wants to touch. An ageing PHP or .NET application that still carries revenue but cannot be changed without something else breaking.
A good bespoke software development company earns its fee by understanding the workflow before writing code. Deciding what the software should not do is where most projects are won or lost, so our first deliverable is usually a short scope document and a clickable prototype, not a backlog of tickets.
What we build for UK businesses
Our stack in 2026–2027 is TypeScript, Vue 3, React, Laravel and PHP, Tailwind CSS, MySQL and PostgreSQL, with Tauri for desktop apps, Capacitor for iOS and Android, and Figma for design. Typical bespoke work includes:
- Operations platforms and ERP: stock, purchasing, production, documents, accounting and point of sale. See custom ERP development.
- Subscription and billing products: customer portals, payments, invoicing and admin dashboards. See SaaS development.
- CRM and pipeline tools shaped around how your sales team really sells, not around a vendor’s idea of a funnel.
- Integrations with the accounting, payment, email and identity services you already rely on.
Proof you can inspect
We build and run our own platforms, which is the clearest evidence that we can maintain software after launch, not just ship it:
- RIVER ERP: a Laravel 13 and Vue 3 business system with 23 modules, 12 suites and 154 screens, covering retail and restaurant point of sale, stock, production and payroll. It ships as a web app, a PWA, Capacitor iOS and Android apps and a Tauri desktop app from one codebase.
- ERPStore: a self-hosted subscription store, billing and CRM platform with 76 API endpoints and 10 payment methods, including Stripe and PayPal. Its latest upgrade was validated on a real database of 1,023 users, 354 orders and 483 payments.
- Enterprise CRM: a B2B pipeline tool on React 18, GraphQL and NestJS, with twelve data dimensions per account on a single row.
For UK client work, Origin Element, a London AI integration consultancy, is our clearest reference: an Astro 7 site with 42 indexable pages and structured data generated at build time.
Comparing bespoke software developers
UK buyers usually shortlist four kinds of bespoke software developers. Each suits a different situation:
| UK software house | Offshore vendor (India, Eastern Europe) | Freelancer | RAIN (Casablanca) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Overlap with UK hours | Full | India 4.5–5.5 h ahead; Eastern Europe 1–2 h ahead | Varies | Same time or 1 h ahead |
| Who does the work | Mixed seniority | Often a junior-heavy bench under a project manager | One person | Senior team; a human lead signs off every release |
| Design and build together | Sometimes | Usually engineering only | Rarely | Product design and development in one studio |
| Price visibility | Quote after discovery | Per-head rate cards | Day rate | Published: projects from $10,000, retainers $7,500 or $15,000 a month |
| Continuity after launch | Good, at UK rates | Depends on staff turnover | Single point of failure | Retainer with the same team that built it |
| Meeting in person | Easy | Rare | Easy if local | Workshops by arrangement; about 3 h by air from London |
If you need a permanent team of twenty engineers, hire in-house. If you need a senior squad that can design, build and support a system within a week of signing, a studio like ours is usually the better fit. Our guide to nearshore vs offshore development covers the trade-offs in more depth.
Working with a Casablanca team from the UK
Time zone and communication
Morocco runs on GMT+1 for most of the year and moves to GMT for around a month during Ramadan. In practice Casablanca shares the UK’s clock during British Summer Time and is one hour ahead in winter, so your 9:00 stand-up is our 9:00 or 10:00. Every project has one senior lead, one shared Slack channel and a Loom walkthrough every Friday showing what shipped and what is next.
Contracts, IP and invoicing
Ownership of code and designs is written into the contract before kick-off. We can work inside your GitHub or GitLab organisation, your issue tracker and your cloud accounts from the first day, so nothing sits on our side. Contracts are in English. Prices are set in USD, and we can invoice in GBP on request.
Data protection
If the software processes personal data about people in the UK, UK GDPR applies. Morocco has no UK adequacy decision, so where we access personal data a transfer safeguard is needed, typically the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. On our side, processing is also governed by Moroccan Law 09-08, overseen by the CNDP. The simplest set-up is often to keep production data in your UK or EU hosting and give us anonymised staging data. This is general information, not legal advice; your DPO or solicitor should confirm the arrangement.
How a bespoke engagement runs
- Free 15-minute call to understand the problem, the people involved and the deadline.
- Scoping session and written proposal: fixed scope or retainer, milestones, and what is explicitly out of scope.
- Contract covering IP, access, confidentiality and data processing.
- Kick-off within 3–5 business days, with access to tools and a review of any existing system.
- Weekly delivery to a staging environment every Friday, so you judge progress on working software rather than status reports.
Custom platforms typically reach a first production release in 8–16 weeks. A common pattern is a fixed-scope first release followed by a retainer for the improvements that real users ask for.
Bespoke software development services pricing
- Fixed-scope projects from $10,000 for well-defined builds.
- Growth, $7,500 per month: 45 hours, two active projects, twice-weekly syncs, 24-hour response.
- Scale, $15,000 per month: 100 hours, unlimited active projects, daily syncs, same-day response.
Full plan details are in the pricing section of our home page. If the work is mainly interface and workflow design, see our UI/UX design agency page for UK teams.
Talk to a bespoke software team
Tell us what the current system does, where it hurts and who uses it. Book a free 15-minute call or write to rain@mrzakaria.com, and we will tell you whether bespoke software is the right answer, what a first release could include, and roughly what it would cost. Sometimes the honest answer is an off-the-shelf tool, and we will say so.

Frequently asked questions
Bespoke software development is designing and building an application around one organisation's processes, rather than adapting the business to an off-the-shelf package. It typically replaces spreadsheets, Access databases, legacy systems or a patchwork of SaaS tools. The client owns the result and decides how it evolves.
Fixed-scope projects start at $10,000, and most custom platforms take 8–16 weeks to a first production release. For ongoing work there are two retainers: Growth at $7,500 per month for 45 hours and Scale at $15,000 per month for 100 hours. Prices are set in USD and we can invoice in GBP on request.

You do. Ownership of code and designs is written into the contract before kick-off, and we can work inside your own GitHub or GitLab organisation and cloud accounts from the first day, so repositories and credentials stay with your company.

Yes. The first week of an engagement includes a review of your codebase, hosting and deployment, followed by a written view of what to keep, refactor or replace. Rewrites are recommended only when the existing system cannot be changed safely.
