Nearshore Software Development in Morocco

In short

Nearshore software development in Morocco gives European and UK product teams a senior team that works within an hour of their own clock, about three hours' flight from Paris or London. RAIN Design Studio provides that team from Casablanca on monthly retainers starting at $7,500, with one senior lead per project and working software delivered every Friday.

What nearshore software development means

Nearshore software development is outsourcing to a team in a nearby country that shares most of your working day. For a company in Paris, London, Madrid or Berlin, that means a team you can call at 10:00 and get an answer from at 10:05, not the next morning.

RAIN Design Studio is that team for European, UK and US companies. We are a small senior studio based in Casablanca, six people across three time zones, working with AI specialists. Every deliverable is reviewed and signed off by a human lead. Our founder, MrZaKaRiA, spent 11 years inside agencies before starting RAIN, and the studio has shipped work since 2014.

We are not a body-shop that rents out developers by the head. We are a design and engineering studio that takes responsibility for outcomes: product design, front end, back end, and the release pipeline.

Why Morocco works for nearshore development

Time zone

Morocco runs on GMT+1 for most of the year, switching to GMT for roughly a month around Ramadan. In practice, Casablanca stays within an hour of London and Paris year-round. That means:

  • Full overlap with the working day in the UK, France, Spain, Germany and the Benelux.
  • Casablanca afternoons overlap the US East Coast morning, five to six hours behind.
  • Gulf clients get the Casablanca morning during their afternoon, three hours ahead.

Languages

French is widely used in Moroccan business, administration and higher education, and English is standard in software teams. RAIN works in English and French every day, with Arabic available for interfaces and content. Specifications, standups and code reviews happen in your language, not through a translator.

Proximity and travel

Casablanca is about three hours’ flight from Paris or London and closer still to Madrid or Lisbon. Morocco and Spain are separated by the Strait of Gibraltar, and Tanger Med is one of the Mediterranean’s major container ports. The Al Boraq high-speed train links Casablanca and Tanger in about 2h10. If you want to run a workshop in person, it is a day trip, not an expedition.

How RAIN’s nearshore development team works

Our model is built for product teams that want senior output without managing a vendor:

  • One senior lead per project who owns scope, quality and communication.
  • One Slack channel shared with your team for questions and decisions.
  • Weekly delivery: a working increment and a Loom walkthrough every Friday, showing what shipped, what is next and what we need from you.
  • Syncs on your rhythm: twice a week on Growth, daily on Scale.
  • Your tooling: we can work inside your GitHub or GitLab organization, your issue tracker and your cloud accounts.
  • Human sign-off: AI tools speed up research, drafting and testing, but a senior person reviews and approves every merge and every design.

What a typical week looks like

  • Monday: priorities confirmed with your product owner in Slack or on a short call.
  • Tuesday to Thursday: design and engineering work in your repository, with pull requests opened as features take shape and questions raised the same day, not saved for a weekly meeting.
  • Friday: a working increment on a staging or preview environment, plus a Loom walkthrough you can watch in ten minutes or forward to stakeholders who were not on the calls.

This rhythm keeps the feedback loop short. You never wait a month to discover that a feature was misunderstood, and you always know what the retainer hours bought that week.

Nearshore development company vs the alternatives

Choosing a nearshore development company is one of four common ways to add capacity. Here is how they compare in practice:

Criterion In-house hire Freelancers Distant offshore vendor RAIN nearshore (Casablanca)
Time to start Recruiting cycle, often months Fast for one person, slow to assemble a team Weeks, depends on vendor bench 3–5 business days after signature
Overlap with European hours Full Varies by person Often a few hours Full, GMT+1 most of the year
Seniority Whatever you can hire Varies by person Often mixed, with junior-heavy staffing Senior team, human lead signs off everything
Design and engineering together Separate hires Separate contracts Often engineering only Brand, UI/UX and development in one studio
Management overhead High, you manage everyone High, you coordinate the pieces Medium, vendor PM plus your oversight Low: one lead, one Slack channel, Friday Loom
Cost model Salaries, benefits, tooling Hourly or daily rates Per-developer rate cards $7,500 or $15,000 per month, or fixed scope from $10,000
Scaling up or down Slow in both directions Add or drop individuals Add or remove heads Switch between Growth and Scale

No model is right for everyone. If you need a permanent team of twenty, hire in-house. If you need a senior squad that can design, build and ship within a week of signing, nearshore is usually the better fit. Our guide to nearshore vs offshore development goes deeper into the trade-offs.

What our nearshore team builds

Our stack in 2026–2027 is TypeScript, Vue 3, React, Laravel and PHP, Tailwind CSS, Astro, Tauri for desktop, Capacitor for mobile, MySQL and PostgreSQL, and Figma for design. The work we take on most often:

  • SaaS and subscription products: billing, client portals, admin dashboards. See SaaS development.
  • ERP, CRM and back-office platforms: modular systems with roles, documents and accounting. See custom ERP development.
  • Marketing sites and content platforms that need to rank and be cited by AI answer engines.

The evidence is in our own products and client work:

  • RIVER ERP, our Laravel 13 and Vue 3 ERP, received 1,226 commits between May and October 2026 and carries 965 PHPUnit test files and 381 Vitest specs. It ships as a web app, PWA, Capacitor iOS and Android wrappers and a Tauri desktop app.
  • ERPStore, our subscription billing and CRM platform, has shipped continuously since July 2025, with CI on GitHub Actions and an upgrade validated on a real database of 1,023 users, 354 orders and 483 payments.
  • Origin Element, a London AI consultancy site, was built in Astro 7 with 42 indexable pages and a Lighthouse budget enforced in CI.

How a nearshore engagement starts

  1. Free 15-minute call to understand your product, team and deadlines.
  2. Scoping session and a short written proposal: retainer or fixed scope, first milestones, who does what.
  3. Contract, including code ownership, access and confidentiality terms.
  4. Kick-off within 3–5 business days: access to repositories and tools, a review of your codebase or designs.
  5. First Friday delivery, so you see the working rhythm in week one.

Frequently asked questions

Nearshore software development means working with an external team in a nearby country with a similar time zone, rather than a distant offshore location. For European and UK companies, Morocco is nearshore: it runs on GMT+1 for most of the year and sits about three hours' flight from Paris or London. The practical benefit is real-time collaboration during your normal working day.

Morocco combines a time zone that overlaps the European working day, widespread French and growing English in business, and short flights to most European capitals. Casablanca is the country's economic capital and the base of RAIN Design Studio. For US companies, the Casablanca afternoon overlaps the East Coast morning.

RAIN works on two monthly retainers: Growth at $7,500 per month for 45 hours, two active projects and twice-weekly syncs, and Scale at $15,000 per month for 100 hours, unlimited active projects and daily syncs. Fixed-scope projects start at $10,000. All prices are in USD.

Kick-off happens within 3–5 business days of signature. The first week covers access, a review of your codebase or designs, and a first small increment so you can judge the working rhythm early.

Ownership and access are written into the contract before kick-off. We can work entirely inside your own GitHub or GitLab organization and your cloud accounts, so your company holds the repositories, credentials and deployment pipeline from the first day.

Offshore usually means a distant location chosen mainly for cost, often with only a few overlapping working hours. Nearshore trades a little of that cost gap for same-day collaboration, easier travel and closer cultural and language fit. Our guide on nearshore vs offshore development compares the two models in detail.
